Set on the northern side of the square, the Cathedral is an unusual combination of three styles: a late Baroque façade (demolished in 1756, the original façade can be seen in the painting The expulsionof the Bonacolsi by Domenico Morone, in the Ducal Palace), Gothic wall on the left-hand side and a Romanesque bell tower. The interior was remodelled by Giulio Romano in 1545.
