The Church of the Purity of the Virgin Mary and St. Joachim is a subsidiary church in Bedizzole, located in the hamlet of Sedesina to the south-east of the town centre. It is situated on one of the town's most important vertical roads.
The Chaplaincy of the Church of St Peter was established in Sedesina in 1482 and was owned by the Averoldi family. The first building was constructed on the site of the recently built Ambrogio house, traces of which can still be seen in the surrounding wall.
The current building was constructed in 1757 at the behest of Gioachino Scaini di Salò, who owned one of the palaces in the area. Materials left over from the construction of the parish church of St Stephen were donated by the vicinia on 24 April 1757 and used in the construction of the new church.
The two-storey façade with its four Botticino marble pilasters, window and portal anticipates the particular beauty to be found inside. The 18^(th)-century nave and presbytery are surrounded by frescoes decorating the dome, depicting scenes from the lives of Jacob and Joseph, Moses receiving the tablets, and the figures of the four evangelists.
The altar was created by Alessandro Callegari in 1757 and the wooden statues are attributed to the Fantoni family. The church was restored in 1978 due to disrepair, on the initiative of the provost, Don Giovanni Miristicie. The frescoes were restored by the painter Giacomazzi and volunteers.
