Brescia
The Capital of Culture 2023
Brescia, together with Bergamo, is the Italian Capital of Culture 2023. A beautiful city, thousands of years old. To wander through the rooms of the Santa Giulia museum is to delve into history, from the Roman domus with their colourful mosaics and the precious artefacts of the Lombards, up to the 18th century. In the historical centre, side by side, we find Piazza Loggia, with its unmistakable Venetian style; Piazza Duomo, where the Middle Ages and the Renaissance meet; and Piazza Vittoria, neoclassical, the lively home of the Mille Miglia automobile race, followed by the Capitolium, churches of extraordinary beauty, the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery, and a hundred other places to discover. Here, to sip a delicious coffee in the shade of a historic building is to immerse oneself in beauty. In the summer evenings, the courtyards of the castle come alive with events, against the backdrop of the entire city, where the architectural remains of the Lombards were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011.
