Castle of Portese

The castle was built in the Middle Ages with the function of a den to defend against the incursions of the barbarians; of the old building only a stump of the circular tower now remains. One part was used as the headquarters of the Municipal Library, now located in the new premises in Via Chiusure and another part is still used as headquarters of the Alpine Group of Portese and as a meeting place for the elderly.
