On the south of Lonato, along the Castiglione road, lies the site of Fornace dei Gorghi, where six Roman kilns have recently been discovered. One of these, with a circular layout, restored and brought to a museum is made up of a combustion chamber built with the technique defined as sack like thrown pebbles bound with mortar. They seem to prove the presence of an important artisan complex, dating from the first to the second century AD, which probably provided building material for the construction of many buildings and Roman villas in the surrounding area.
