The MarteS Museo d'arte Sorlini houses a private collection of more than 180 paintings, mostly representative works of Venetian and Venetian painting from the 14th to the 19th century, the result of more than fifty years of research and passion by Brescian collector Luciano Sorlini (1925-2015).
The palace in which it is housed, typical of Brescian architecture from the first half of the 17th century, has an exhibition area of over a thousand square metres divided into 14 rooms, where the entire collection is displayed.
In the exhibition itinerary, alongside the names of Giambattista Tiepolo, Sebastiano Ricci, Gianantonio Guardi, Canaletto and Rosalba Carriera, are those of lesser-known painters who were nevertheless fundamental to the development of the Veneto figurative arts, such as Gian Battista Pittoni, Gaspare Diziani, Antonio Molinari and Francesco Fontebasso. Masterpieces by Giovanni Bellini, Vittore Carpaccio, Bramantino, Ludovico Mazzolino, Gerolamo Savoldo, Palma il Vecchio, Padovanino, and Giacomo Ceruti embellish the collection.
The museum organises temporary exhibitions, collaborates with important museums and cultural institutions, and plans numerous initiatives such as conferences, special tours and in-depth studies with art historians and scholars, as well as research, protection and study of its heritage. It also runs an educational project with proposals for schools of all levels.
