Hidden among the buildings of Trebocche is a reconstruction of the ancient country chapel that originally housed a votive image. It is a depiction of the Madonna and Child, painted in 1541 or 1542 at the behest of Silvestro Benaglio, on the walls of the Lazzaretto located along the road connecting Bettoletto to Pontenove. In the following decades, the fresco became an object of particular veneration, especially during the plague epidemic of 1630, attracting numerous pilgrims. As a result of this growing devotion, a small chapel was erected to protect it. The votive image was transported in a solemn procession in 1741 to be placed in the prestigious Sanctuary of Masciaga.
